Polar Lights
FulldomeFilmScienceNature
The Northern Lights have been explained many times. Polar Lights does it three ways at once.
A fulldome film commissioned for Northern Finland, the work approaches its subject from three directions simultaneously: scientific, mythological, and purely visual. Spectators recline beneath a full-dome projection of Lapland's night sky as the aurora borealis unfolds above them — its plasma physics unpacked, its folklore spoken aloud, its pure visual beauty allowed to exist without explanation.
The result is a film that holds all three truths at the same time: the aurora as charged particles, as ancestral story, as something that stops you mid-sentence and makes you look up.
