Currents
Water is movement. Water is change. Water is life. Currents takes this as its animating principle — a response to a world in flux, where pandemics, war, and climate emergency force each of us to reckon with our place in the whole. As individuals, what we can do is participate: every action in the right direction shapes the larger current, the way a stream shapes an ocean.
Performed at Kulttuuritalo in 2024 before an audience of 200, Currents is an audiovisual vocal installation in which every scenic element is alive to every other. The singer's voice — its frequencies, its choices, its improvisations — triggers changes in sound synthesis, reshapes the musical structure, and transforms the visual environment in real time. AI-generated melodic variations ensure no two moments are identical: the work breathes, adapts, becomes.
A depth-sensing camera maps the contours of the singer's body in three dimensions, projecting her physical presence directly into the holographic space in real time — the individual made visible as part of a larger, breathing organism. Hologram projections envelop the space. Years later, audiences still come back to say they remember it.
